See buffalo herding
From every station
Trains can breathe now
Streets are heaving
Red white blue on
Coloured bunting
No one's leaving
Flags unfurlingUnicycle
Roadway clearing
Children hopping
Parents cheering
Collected fears
Have lost their meaning
A flame is fanning
A torch is nearing
Our arms extending:
A celebration
All for one
Olympic nation.
I love the energy, the forward motion of your poem!
ReplyDeleteWow, how exciting to have the Olympic Torch Relay pass so close to your house. I assume you took those pictures. I love the idea of 'one Olympic nation.' For a short time every four years, this is just what we are, isn't it? Your poem will preserve the memory of this event. A fine write indeed.
ReplyDeleteThere's just something about the Olympic spirit that just seems to draw people together and unites them, even if it's only for a brief moment. You've captured that magical moment so well...and I'm so jealous, what a great thing to witness! Thanks for sharing this with all of us over at Poetry Jam!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is so uniting! Well written so much energy surging in this!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely celebration in the carrying of the torch and the opening of the Olympics. It was in Vancouver in 2010 and the whole city partied for the duration - so proud. It was quite lovely. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI love the Olympic Torch parade when it came here some years ago--probably many years ago now. The only thing that really mystified me in your poem were the buffaloes herding! But perhaps I am being too literal.
ReplyDeleteThe buffalo thing was just a wee bit of poetic licence Peggy-the trains were packed with people and the police were moving them like cattle. A very busy day for everyone!
DeleteI love the crescendo in energy in this poem. Also enjoyed the"collected fears have lost ther meaning" Nice!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am in the middle of this celebration. Love it!
ReplyDeleteah very cool...it is coming soon...and it will be celebration for sure...you really give a sense of expectation and energy in this...
ReplyDeleteFun poem! Your words have lovely energy. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all these comments. Looking forward to the Olympics even more after the torch relay!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this very much! I agree with the above comment...it's the certain energy in the poem. Very nice.
