Thrawn,
Strong,
Strong,
Pale and gaunt.
Tall
Oak
Bent and drawn.
Battle
Scarred,
Sun down
Gone.
War
Wounds,Scared to mourn...
***
Face
Up,
No blind eye.
Stand
Ground,
Let freedom fly.
Down
A nation's psyche,
Tangled
grass,
Hold
Steady ...
Steady ...
Whiskers grey,
Streaked with strife...
You
Pay
The Price:
But
Live a life.
Note: I went to see Steven Spielberg's movie last night. Daniel Day Lewis's performance as Abraham Lincoln was immense and inspired this poem.
Yes! I am won over. A film review (form) that leaves something to the reader. This is the first on Lincoln that has made me feel I REALLY want to see it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a real old style movie. Not much on action but great acting :-)
DeleteWonderful poem! I also have seen the movie and found it amazing. Really gave me a good picture of Lincoln, the man. Also, though I had read / studied the history of the Civil War at various times, there were some scenes inn that movie that will stick with me forever. I feel that I probably SHOULD see the movie again!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that much about Lincoln but found Day Lewis really brought him to life :-)
Deleteyou pay the price but live a life....nice...it had to be a hard life for him, but his story is also inspiring...lincoln though is one of my fav presidents...my son was one of the finalist for his son in the movie...
ReplyDeleteOh that is fantastic. Keep at it son of Brian.
DeleteThat was amazing-well done him :-)
ReplyDeleteI must see this film now. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteNot sure why this disappeared :-(
ReplyDeleteWeird lol...not sure either. Here's what I said: I haven't seen the movie yet, but it is on my to-do list. Historians often refer to how the presidency took such a toll on Lincoln. You have especially captured that well here. Happy day to you :-)
DeleteThis was riveting...and you have inspired me to see this film.
ReplyDeleteMy 9-yr-old son just recently did a report on Abe Lincoln and then had to dress up like him for a wax museum. It was fun.
ReplyDeleteI love your poem and hope to see the movie, soon! I have heard it is amazing~ YOU portrayed him, so well :D
